STIP meeting in Pinedale June 2
by Wyoming Department of Transportation
May 27, 2009

The Wyoming Department of Transportation, District Three, will make presentations of the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) during the week of June 1 to address future highway improvement projects in Western Wyoming.

The STIP is a prioritized construction plan by which the Department designs, schedules and prioritizes road construction projects over the next six years. The actual contract bidding on any one of these projects is determined by a number of factors, the most significant being the amount of total revenue the Department receives from all sources in any year. Projects enter the STIP process based on a complex long range planning and needs analysis process, along with public input on known development issues that impact highway capacity.

The presentations of the STIP will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the following locations:

Teton County STIP on Monday, June 1, WYDOT Office, 1040 Evans Rd. in Jackson
Sublette County STIP on Tuesday, June 2, County Commissioner's Room, 21 S. Tyler Ave. in Pinedale
Lincoln County STIP on Wednesday, June 3, County Library, Community Room, 519 Emerald, in Kemmerer
Uinta County STIP on Thursday, June 4, County Library, Almy Room, 701 Main St. in Evanston
Sweetwater County STIP on Friday, June 5, WYDOT Office, Room 169, 3200 Elk St. in Rock Springs

Since some road projects take longer than a year to complete, a long term source of revenue is extremely important. The Wyoming highway infrastructure plays a major role in the state's economy, so understanding and support for the highway systems is vital to the building and maintaining of a safe, high quality, and efficient state highway system.

A key part of the STIP process involves annual meetings with public officials and other individuals who play a key transportation role in Wyoming. These meetings provide an opportunity for local officials and citizens to provide input into WYDOT’s planning process. During the meetings, input is sought on projects planned for future construction, and community development and local planning that will impact the state transportation system. Anyone with an interest in the future of our transportation infrastructure in Western Wyoming, is encouraged to attend one of the meetings to offer input.
