June 17, 2009
Half Moon Lake Resort lodging and horseback riding will be operational this summer through a special arrangement with Lakeside Lodge (on Fremont Lake) and Thompson Outfitters.
Half Moon Lake Resort cabins will be available for guest stays through the end of September. Two and three-unit cabins are available, all overlooking Half Moon Lake. All offer private bathrooms, covered deck, outdoor grill, small refrigerator and microwave. Cabins have one Queen bed per unit. Rates range from $90 to $140 per night. They will be offering one and two-hour day rides, as well as longer full-day rides. The shorter rides can usually be arranged on same-day notice. Longer horseback rides need to have advance reservations. Horseback riding is available in the Half Moon Lake area as well as out of the Thompson Outfitters camp in the Upper Green and from the Green River Lakes trailhead. "We hope to open next Tuesday," said Todd Stevie of Thompson Outfitters, "but right now we’re knee deep in mud."
This June has been unusually wet, delaying the start date this year. They are watching the weather and waiting for things to dry out a bit before getting into full swing on the horseback riding activities. For more information about Half Moon/Lakeside Lodge horseback riding, call Thompson Outfitters at 307-367-6507, or e-mail todd@wyohunt.com, http://www.wyohunt.com/.
The Half Moon Lake Resort restaurant and marina will remain closed with no services, and their Wind River Queen paddlewheeler was dry docked by order of the Pinedale Ranger District, which no longer wanted it to be used on the lake. The Forest Service boat ramp and parking area are open for public access to the lake for watercraft.
