U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., is currently accepting applications for her Washington, D.C. internship program for fall 2009. Lummis’ intern program, which lasts four months, is designed to give Wyoming’s youth a unique perspective into the inner workings of the U.S. House of Representatives.
"I firmly believe that all of our interns walk away with a deeper appreciation and understanding of how our government operates, and an instilled sense of civic duty," Lummis said.
Interns have a wide range of responsibilities, including helping respond to constituent requests, attending legislative hearings and giving U.S. Capitol tours. Interns receive a monthly stipend and are responsible for their round-trip airfare and living expenses while in Washington.
Applicants are typically residents of Wyoming, in college, and are 21 years of age or older.
Students attending the University of Wyoming may receive college credits. More information is available on the University’s website.
Candidates should e-mail a cover letter, resume and writing sample to lummisopening@gmail.com. The deadline for applications is July 31, 2009.
Questions regarding Lummis’ intern program should be directed to Lummis’ intern coordinator, Joy Downey, at (202) 225-2311.
