Ranch Horse Competition
Sublette County Fair 2009
July 28, 2009
For the second year, working cowboys were able to show their horse skills in the Ranch Horse Competition at the Sublette County Fair.
Most people are familiar with traditional rodeo sports that have their roots in cowboy skills, but don't really demonstrate the day-to-day skills of a working cowboy. However, the Ranch Horse Competition features the horse and cowboy skills that are used every day by working cowboys.
In a 5-minute time limit, cowboys and cowgirls demonstrate reining skills with spins, circles with lead changes, stops, rollbacks, boxing a cow, turning a cow along a fence and roping and stopping a cow.
Over 50 cowboys and cowgirls ranging from novice to seasoned rancher demonstrated their skills on Saturday afternoon.
