Federally funded Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits will be available to unemployed workers in Wyoming, according to the Wyoming Department of Employment. The benefits, of up to 13 additional weeks, will be effective Oct. 4, 2009.

These extended benefits are available in states with a three-month average total unemployment rate greater than 6 percent. Wyoming has reached the 6 percent average rate, making the additional 13 weeks of benefits available to eligible claimants. The first payable week for the extension is the week ending Oct. 10, 2009.

The extension is part of the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2008 which provides benefits to workers who exhausted regular unemployment insurance benefits after May 1, 2007, and are not eligible for a new unemployment insurance claim. Employers will not incur any additional direct costs.

The Wyoming Department of Employment, Unemployment Insurance Division, will mail notices next week to individuals who may be eligible for these benefits. To inquire about the extension or to file a claim, contact the Wyoming Claims Center at (307)473-3789 or visit: http://wyui.doe.state.wy.us.
