WLCI meeting in Rock Springs Jan. 14

The Executive Committee of the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI) will meet Thursday, Jan 14, 2009 at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) High Desert District Office in Rock Springs. The meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. and is scheduled to adjourn by 5:00 p.m.
During the meeting, the Executive Committee will discuss agency year-end reports for WLCI contributions, the new WLCI logo, a catalog of projects, and strategic conservation using science. The committee will also hear a presentation on Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) and begin planning for a future science workshop. They will also receive updates from various WLCI projects and committees.
The WLCI Executive Committee is comprised of representatives from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Forest Service, Wyoming Game & Fish Department, Wyoming Department of Agriculture, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, county commissioners and conservation districts. Sublette County Commissioner John Linn is currently serving as chairman of the committee. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Wyoming Field Supervisor Brian Kelly and Wyoming Game and Fish Department Director Steve Ferrell are serving respectively as first vice chair and second vice chair.
The WLCI is a long-term science-based effort to assess and enhance aquatic and terrestrial habitats at a landscape scale in Southwest Wyoming, while facilitating responsible development of the region’s valuable energy resources.
The meeting is open to the public, and visitors will have the opportunity to comment. The BLM High Desert District Office is located at 280 Highway 191 North, in Rock Springs.
