Pinedale Nordic Ski Grooming Report, February 5
by Bob Barrett, Pinedale Ski Education Foundation
February 5, 2010
Halfway through the winter, less than half of the designated 17-mile Nordic ski trail system is in service. Our "temporary" grooming of the upper 4 1/2 miles (7.2 km) of Skyline Drive to Elkhart Park may continue all season if more snow doesn’t arrive on the lower designated trails. Skyline is groomed every few days but the thin snowpack on the lower trails has prevented the start of a regular grooming schedule.
The meadow at Surveyor Park, including Moose Ridge, is skiing well except for a menacing ice spring at the Moose Ridge intersection. The Tree Loop and Flat Line are either ungroomed or unsafe for skating.
Kelly Park and the Old Road Trail from Halfmoon Overlook up to White Pine are groomed but coverage is thin in spots. We are unable to groom the tie-in trail from Kelly Park up to the Old Road Trail intersection and the tie-in over to Halfmoon Overlook is track-compacted but remains hazardous.
The CCC Ponds Pathway is groomed for 1 1/4 miles (2 km) from the south parking lot to the warming hut and then to Fremont Lake Road.
