EnCana hosts a two-day energy education workshop in Riverton May 10 & 11
by EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. media release
March 16, 2010

RIVERTON – EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. is offering a free, interactive, two-day workshop for Wyoming teachers to explore energy resources and tour EnCana’s Wind River Basin drilling operations in May. EnCana is partnering with Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom (WAIC) and Fremont County BOCES to present the workshop curriculum provided by the National Energy Education Development (NEED) program.

The workshop will be held at the Fremont County BOCES Center on May 10, with a tour of EnCana facilities on May 11. Registration for all K-12 teachers is now open online at www.regonline.com/need-riverton. Workshop attendance is limited to 40 teachers.

"We want teachers to leave the workshop with tools to teach their students about the science of energy and the importance of using energy wisely," said Randy Teeuwen, EnCana community relations advisor. "Our state holds an immense amount of natural resources, and it’s our responsibility to be aware of current energy challenges and opportunities, and help educate our community to be energy efficient."

Teachers who take part in the two-day workshop are eligible for PTSB credits and will receive more than $500 worth of curriculum and hands-on teacher kits sponsored by EnCana. The curriculum and kits explore the forms of energy and energy transformations, Wyoming energy sources, the natural gas process, energy conservation and how to integrate energy education into the classroom.

"Energy is a cross-curricular subject, so the workshop offers a great opportunity for teachers to team teach or customize activities to their students," said Brook Gerke, WAIC education coordinator. "We encourage all teachers to register and learn about Wyoming energy, agriculture and natural resources in a fun and exciting way."

"This workshop provides educators the opportunity to receive and use tools that align with Wyoming state standards and that engage students while learning and teaching about energy," said NEED Executive Director Mary Spruill. "Teachers will develop their own professional knowledge of energy at the workshop and leave with the resources to apply that knowledge immediately in the classroom."

With EnCana’s sponsorship, this professional development event includes substitute reimbursement made to the school district, as well as breakfast and lunch and lodging for those traveling from outside the Riverton area.

To register for the workshop, visit www.regonline.com/need-riverton, or call 800-875-5029 or 800-847-1820.
