2010 GRVLT Nature Camp - June 28 to July 2
by Green River Valley Land Trust
April 6, 2010
For the second year, the GRVLT is planning to hold a week-long, day-only Nature Camp for 50 children ages 7-14 from June 28-July 2, 2010; the final day of camp will include an evening bbq for campers and their families with a talent show and awards ceremony.
The nature awareness-based program is an opportunity for campers to explore their relationship with the natural world around them. Children learn what they live, and by spending a week "living with nature," the campers become stewards of nature. The goal of the camp is to offer nature-based education to train the next generation of conservationists by instilling a love of nature.
The week of hands-on, outdoor, experiential learning is designed to foster an appreciation for and love of nature using the public and private lands "classroom" of Sublette County - including lands on which the GRVLT holds conservation easements.
Campers will be divided into four groups by age. Each age group will participate in activities according to a curriculum designed around daily themes:
Monday: Ecosystems - Everything is Connected Tuesday: Forces - Earth, Water, Fire; Change is Everything Wednesday: Plants, Animals, Insects; Forces Affect Life Thursday: Humans and Nature - What is our role? Friday: Full Circle - jobs in natural resources
The cost of camp for the week is $275 per child, including transportation, lunch and 2 healthy snacks a day. Scholarships will be available - information is included in registration materials.
