Bridger-Teton Firewood Permits available
May 3, 2010
The Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) will sell firewood permits for private use beginning May 15, 2010. Firewood permits are a service offered by the U.S. Forest Service and cost five dollars per cord with a minimum purchase of twenty dollars. Individual households may purchase up to ten cords per year for personal use. The permit holder must be present while gathering firewood and must sign the permit when purchasing. Permits may also be obtained online at this website, www.fs.fed.us/r4/btnf and mailed into the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Information on other forest products offered is also available at any Forest office or on the Forest Service BTNF website. When gathering firewood, permits allow for the harvest of down or standing dead wood only. All wood gathered must be kept to a length of 8 feet or less and firewood load must be tagged with the purple firewood tags and permits on hand. Due to wet seasonal weather, many of the Forest roads are still impassable or too soggy for motorized use. All Forest users must adhere to current motor vehicle use regulations and are encouraged to check with the local ranger stations for information about the areas trail and road conditions. Bridger-Teton Travel maps are available at all Forest offices and online.
