‘Bomb Like Device’ found under Interstate 80
Tied to a girder of eastbound underside bridge deck near Point of Rocks, 25 miles east of Rock Springs

Tuesday, August 10, 2010, 9:19 PM Breaking News: ROCK SPRINGS - WYDOT and Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers have closed both east and westbound Interstate 80 near Point of Rocks after a suspicious looking item described as a ‘bomb like looking device’ was discovered under the overpass at the Point of Rocks Interchange. The Point of Rocks Interchange is approximately mile post #130 about 25 miles east of Rock Springs.
A passerby reported to the Wyoming Highway Patrol that they had discovered the suspicious looking device tied to one of the girders of the eastbound underside bridge deck of the Interstate.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol has requested assistance from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Response Officers. The Wyoming Highway Patrol has also notified the Wyoming Homeland Security Office.
It is unknown if this device is a fake or is real. Our goal at this point is to provide a safe environment for the motoring public, fire and law enforcement personnel.
