Closure Order revised for Bull Fire on Bridger-Teton National Forest
by Bridger Teton National Forest
August 20, 2010

The Bridger Teton National Forest will be closing the Little Granite Road at 6:00 PM Thursday, August 19th 2010. A temporary Emergency Fire Closure for the Bull Fire was first put into place on July 24th and then lifted in some areas due to a wetting rain received on the fire a couple of weeks ago. With the current dry and windy weather, fire monitors on the incident have reported the fire becoming more active within the fires perimeter.

Fire managers are implementing a predetermined management action plan, which includes revising the closure area to include the Little Granite Road 30505 and Boulder Creek drainage. A closure remains for Cow Creek (FS trail 4120) Bull Creek (FS road 30497) and Rough Hollow drainage. The Hoback Shield and the Granite Creek Road are still open at this time.

The fire is now 1,787 acres and burning in timber and progressing south down the Rough Hollow drainage. Hutta’s Type 3 Incident Management team has been requested and will transition with the Jackson Ranger District on Friday August 19th.

Incident objectives and management decisions will balance concerns for the safety of the public and firefighters, the values threatened by the fire, forecasted weather, expected fire behavior, and long term plans and objectives for the area as described in our Land and Resource Management Plan. Additional objectives may include wilderness values, forest health concerns, and long term sustainability of ecosystems that have evolved in the presence of periodic fire.

Fire Danger rating for the forest is moderate. For more fire information please visit www.tetonfires.com and www.inciweb.org.
