Free admission to Yellowstone Park on August 14 & 15
by National Park Service
August 10, 2010
Yellowstone will be waiving entrance fees again for the weekend of August 14 & 15, as part of a national initiative instituted by Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar earlier this year.
Yellowstone is home to an abundance of wildlife, wild flowers, and wild vistas. Turn off the TV and computer; ditch the electronic devices, and take advantage of the numerous opportunities to reconnect heart, soul, and mind with nature in the world’s first national park on this special weekend.
Young and old alike will enjoy participating in ranger-led activities (http://go.usa.gov/c3z); visiting some of the geysers that comprise the world’s largest concentration of thermal features; viewing exhibits or taking in a film at one of the park’s visitor centers, such as the new film at the Canyon Visitor Education Center, Yellowstone: Land to Life.
Enjoy the beauty and grandeur of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone or Yellowstone Lake from one or more of their overlooks.
Children may enjoy becoming a Junior Ranger or a Young Scientist (http://go.usa.gov/c3z).
Visit historic sites such as the Fishing Bridge Museum, Norris Geyser Basin Museum, Obsidian Cliff, the Old Faithful Inn and Historic District, Roosevelt Lodge Historic District, Lake Hotel, and Fort Yellowstone at Mammoth Hot Springs.
Campgrounds and lodging in and around the park have been filling very early in the day. Advance reservations are highly recommended. Arrive early at campgrounds that do not take reservations.
Reservations for in-park lodging, some campgrounds, and some activities can be made by calling 1-866-GEYSERLAND (866-439-7375).
