Free firewood available at Dutch Joe Guard Station
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
August 23, 2010
PINEDALE –The Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest will be offering free-use firewood permits for the Dutch Joe Guard Station starting Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29 only. There is no cost for the firewood but a valid free-use firewood permit is required. These permits may be obtained at the Pinedale District Office between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and at the Dutch Joe Guard Station between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday. Wood may only be gathered during the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. Individuals are limited to four cords of free-use firewood per year. If you have already been issued a free-use firewood permit this season you will not be eligible for additional permits.
Beetle killed trees inside the Dutch Joe Guard Station compound have been felled and bucked into 8 foot lengths. The free-use permit is only valid for downed trees inside the Dutch Joe area. Wood collected outside the area will require a regular firewood permit. The wood is mixed green and dead. Most trees are lodgepole pine, and may be infested with Mountain Pine beetle. Special care must be taken with this wood to reduce beetle populations. This information will be handed out with issuance of a free-use firewood permit.
Firewood cutters are reminded that all firewood removed from the National Forest requires a valid Forest Service firewood permit and each load is required to be properly tagged before the wood is removed from the Forest.
