PINEDALE – The Fayette fire was detected on Saturday August 14th on the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The fire as of August 17th is estimated at 5-acres and located in very rocky terrain about 15-miles northeast of the town of Pinedale, Wyoming. A long term management plan will be implemented by fire managers and resources specialist for this fire which is located within the Bridger Wilderness. Burning 2-miles north of Fayette Lake, the lightning-caused fire is likely to continue to burn throughout the fall.
Fire management decisions balance concerns for the safety of the public and firefighters, the values threatened by the fire, forecasted weather, expected fire behavior, and long term plans and objectives for the area as described in the Forest’s Land and Resource Management Plan. That may include Wilderness values, forest health concerns, and the long term sustainability of ecosystems that have evolved in the presence of periodic fire.
