Stephen Haskell joins race for Sublette County Sheriff

An unexpected new name will be appearing on the General Election ballot for Sublette County Sheriff, and that new name is Stephen R. Haskell.
Stephen Haskell, age 49, of Big Piney, is the son of Sweetwater County Sheriff Rich Haskell. After serving 25 years in the United States Marine Corps, Stephen Haskell became a deputy under former Sheriff Hank Ruland. He is currently a reserve deputy for both the Sublette County and the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Departments.
A week ago, Stephen Haskell was not seriously considering a run for Sublette County Sheriff, but in recent days, a large number of his supporters encouraged him to seek a position on the General Election Ballot as an Independent candidate. These supporters circulated a petition over the weekend to obtain the necessary signatures needed to place Haskell on the November ballot, and the petition was turned in to the Sublette County Clerk prior to the 5 PM deadline on Monday.
On Tuesday, the County Clerk's office verified that there were sufficient verified signatures on the petition to place Haskell on the November 2nd ballot as an Independent candidate for Sheriff.
Haskell will join Republican nominee John Wells, and another Independent candidate, Mike Edison, on the General Election Ballot, in what will result in a three-way race for Sublette County Sheriff.
No Democrat received the required 25 write-in votes to be placed on the ballot for Sheriff.
