The High Plains Economic Development District, which coordinates economic development in southeast Wyoming, hosted the first annual Southeast Wyoming Shale Oil Seminars August 31 in Cheyenne and September 1 in Torrington and Wheatland, Wyoming. Oil exploration has begun in southeast Wyoming, northern Colorado, and western Nebraska with companies examining the viability of extracting oil from the Niobrara shale formation. The goal of the seminars was to provide information to policymakers and the general public about what is happening, what industry needs and challenges are, and what communities can anticipate might happen if exploration continues.

Three Sublette County representatives attended the seminars to share their perspectives on how energy development has impacted life and growth in Sublette County. Attending were Sublette County Commissioner Joel Bousman, Sublette County Partnership Coordinator Laurie Latta and Sublette County Planner Bart Myers.
