Gas operators hold river release response exercise

Ultra, Shell, and QEP Energy, natural gas operators on the Pinedale Anticline, held a one-day river spill response exercise on Monday, October 18th to practice boom deployment on a river setting with first responders.
"While a release to the river is highly unlikely, as responsible operators we conduct drills and exercises to be prepared for a response if a situation does occur. We are working closely with local landowners and local authorities to make sure we continue to have a solid response plan that puts the safety of people and the environment first," said Darci Sinclair, Communications, for US Rockies - Shell Oil Company.
The exercise included hands-on practice that focused on deploying a containment boom and evaluating boom placement at a specific location on the New Fork River. Responders used specialized techniques in deploying the boom and in boom placement to provide effective containment.
Local authorities and first responders, including the fire department, Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management, Sublette County LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Commission) and a law enforcement representative from the Big Piney area participated.
