WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, released the following statement in response to the administration’s announcement that it will lift its six-month moratorium on deepwater oil drilling:
"The administration’s ban on offshore drilling rubbed salt in the wound for tens of thousands of hardworking Americans in the Gulf. They depend on their jobs in these tough economic times and our country depends on them for their important role in energy security. America looks to its offshore energy producers for nearly 30% of domestic energy – energy that makes us less reliant on foreign countries.
"Although the lifting of the moratorium is a much-needed step in the right direction, many questions remain regarding the administration’s new permitting process in a time when the people of the Gulf region and all Americans are in desperate need of certainty."
