PINEDALE — Beginning this week, the Sublette Board of County Commissioners will distribute an air quality guide via mail to all residents in Sublette County. The guide defines air quality and pollution sources, explains federal and state regulation of air quality, and outlines what’s being done in Sublette County to monitor air quality and reduce emissions.

"This guide defines the issues, regulations and efforts behind air quality management in Sublette County, but also extends an offer to citizens to join the discussion and learn how they can help on an individual level," said Bill Cramer, Sublette County Commissioner. "Managing air quality requires a collaborative effort and armed with the facts around the challenges and the efforts behind it, we all can continue to make progress on preservation of this important resource."

Produced by the County with input from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and funding from five industry partners: Shell, Ultra Resources Inc., QEP Energy Company, BP and Encana, this guide addresses air quality as it relates to natural gas activity and population growth, as well as residential, recreational and naturally occurring sources of air pollutants.

"While the natural gas industry does play a part, it’s important to note that air pollutants come from a variety of sources, and because of our location and other factors, Sublette County is especially susceptible to winter ozone formation," said Cramer. As the natural gas industry continues to develop and deploy new technologies and methods for lowering emissions, we also urge residents to review the guidelines for how each of us can reduce our impact. We all play a part in air quality preservation and if we continue the discussion and efforts to combat pollutants, we will be successful at protecting air quality in the area."
