Lunar eclipse
Total eclipse of the moon
December 21, 2010
A total lunar eclipse took place on early Tuesday morning, December 21st. A total eclipse occurs when the full Moon passes almost dead-center through the Earth's shadow. Total lunar eclipses in northern winter are fairly common, with three of them in the past ten years alone. This was the first total lunar eclipse in nearly three years. The last total lunar eclipse was on February 20, 2008. The eclipse lasted approximately 72 minutes.
