December 20, 2010
The Pinedale Glaciers Peewees came out winning at the Sublette County Ice Arena this last weekend as they went up against the Riverton River Rats. Friday night, the Glaciers shined with a score of 11 to 4 with Jacob Mitchell, Kelly Fagan, and Jaydon Lewis each achieving a hat trick (three goals in one game).
"We had a great weekend." Said Coach Nate Lloyd, "To have three players get a hat trick in one game is really something. Plus Jacob Mitchell also got a hat trick on Saturday. They all really hustled and worked together as a team."
The first period saw Pinedale score the first two goals by Fagan (assisted by Carson Stinson, Lewis) and Mitchell (Cole Andersen). The second period started off with the River Rats slamming three goals in a row. The Glaciers answered with three goals of their own by Fagan (Lewis), Stinson (Lewis, Cody Crumb), and Mitchell (Fagan, Abbie Ennis)
The Glaciers swept the third period with six goals scored by Lewis (Stinson, Crumb), Mitchell (Fagan, Stetson Ivie), Mitchell in a power play (asst. Cody Green), Lewis (Hannah Mivshek), Fagan (Mitchell, Crumb), and Lewis (Green).
Saturday morning brought a new battle with the River Rats. The Glaciers came out on top with a win of 10 to 5. The Glaciers dominated the first period with three goals by Lewis (Fagan, Ennis), Crumb (unassisted), and Mitchell (short-handed, asst. Andersen). In the second period, Riverton netted two but the Glaciers managed to stay on top by scoring four goals thanks to Lewis (Fagan), Green (Mitchell), Mitchell (K.C. Brewer), and Fagan (Mitchell).
Riverton bounced back in the third period scoring two goals within the first minute. Mitchell, (assisted by Ivie, Crumb) scored a goal holding the River Rats back until they managed to slip one past Pinedale’s goalie. Fagan responded by shooting the puck into Riverton’s net (Lewis, Makayla Thompson). Cody Crumb launched the final goal of the game (assisted by Jacob Mitchell) to win the match.
Lloyd said "It’s a new year, a new team. They’ve really been working hard to improve their skills and I think it’s paid off". Lloyd is assisted by James Beam and Alvin Mitchell. "We have an excellent goalie in Galen Bellis who made 62 saves this weekend, and now we’ve got John Mitchell backing him up in the crease. We also have some new players who are really showing promise. I’m proud of these guys, they worked hard out there."
