Free entry to Yellowstone Park over Martin Luther King holiday Jan 15-17
by Yellowstone National Park
January 11, 2011
Yellowstone National Park is waving admission fees this weekend in conjunction with the Martin Luther King, Jr., federal holiday.
No matter how you choose enter the park - by car, RV, bus, or on a guided snowmobile or snowcoach trip – the entrance fee to the park will be waived Saturday, January 15 through Monday, January 17.
Yellowstone is joining all national parks across the country in waiving entrance fees on 17 days in 2011, as a way to encourage people to get outdoors and spend time with their loved ones in the national parks this year.
The other fee free days this year will be National Park Week (April 16-24), the first day of summer (June 21), National Public Lands Day (September 24), and the weekend of Veterans Day (November 11-13).
Access to the interior of Yellowstone during the winter months is restricted to guided snowmobile and snowcoach trips from the North, West, South, and East entrances. At Old Faithful, the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins and the dining room; the Geyser Grill; the Bear Den Gift Shop; and the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center are all open for the winter season.
The North Entrance and the road from Gardiner, Montana, through Mammoth Hot Springs on to Cooke City, Montana, outside the park’s Northeast Entrance, is open to wheeled vehicle travel all year.
The Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, dining room, and gift shop; the Yellowstone General Store; the medical clinic; campground; Post Office; 24-hour gasoline pumps; and the Albright Visitor Center at Mammoth Hot Springs are open all year.
A seven-day pass to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks is normally $25 for a private, non-commercial vehicle.
