PAWG in limbo until DOI makes Board appointments
Pinedale Anticline Working Group meeting scheduled for Feb. 3, but unknown if DOI will announcements appointments by that time
by Bureau of Land Management
January 19, 2011

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Anticline Working Group (PAWG) is awaiting official appointment of its new members prior to its scheduled Feb. 3 meeting. The BLM is committed to the success of the PAWG and its mission and is not cancelling the Feb. 3 meeting in hopes that the appointments will be completed in time.

Nominations to fill the nine vacant positions on the PAWG are being processed but are not yet approved by the Department of the Interior. Until the nominees are officially appointed by the Secretary of the Interior to the PAWG, there are not enough members for a Federal Advisory Committee Act( FACA) quorum which is a requirement for offering advice and recommendations to the BLM.

Shane DeForest, Pinedale Field Manager, states "Rather than cancel the meeting, we are keeping it on the calendar and will hold a general orientation and informational meeting for the nominees and public if the appointments are not completed in time. We want to provide every opportunity for a productive PAWG meeting and to give the approvers in Washington as much time as possible to complete the nomination process."

DeForest stressed that even though the PAWG may not be able to provide advice and recommendations at the Feb. 3 meeting without official appointments, it is still vital to share information and give the board nominees a chance to familiarize themselves with the PAWG structure and procedures so that they are ready to fulfill their role once the appointments are completed.
