The 4-H Cloverbuds held their monthly meeting February 9th at the Pinedale Extension Office. The meeting started off with some tasty snacks by 4-H Volunteer Windy Noble. The Cloverbuds were greeted by 9-year 4-H member and former Wyoming State Leadership Team member, Hadley Pape. Hadley explained to the 5-7 year old Cloverbuds about all the opportunities she has been given thru 4-H. She discussed her state sponsored trip to Washington D.C. for her leadership program as well as her quilting, market livestock, and foods projects. Hadley applied and was chosen last year out of many applicants throughout the State 4-H program to represent Sublette County and Wyoming for the one-year term on the State Leadership Team. Hadley explained to the members how 4-H offers abundant opportunities for traveling, meeting new people and exciting learning opportunities.
Next, Cloverbud members voted on selecting a County Fair theme to submit to the Fair Board for a chance to win $100.00. The club voted on several and will submit their themes to the Fair Board for consideration. Themes ranged from song titles with a twist, to a lot of cowboy and agriculture themes!
Cloverbuds then began to learn about one of the six pillars of ‘Character Counts!’ for their lesson plan. They learned about Citizenship and the importance of community involvement. The club members brought canned food to this meeting for the 4-H programs "Share The Love Food Drive" and learned about how important it is to help others out. The members brought over 50 nonperishable items for the Food Basket! It’s been a great community project for the club to support others in need. There are opportunities for people in the community to participate in the "Share The Love Food Drive" at the local banks and stores, or you can donate your food at the Pinedale Extension Office at 621 S. Pine Street in Pinedale and it will be delivered to the Food Basket.
Members then played a game that helped explain Citizenship by tossing a rope to other members in a circle. Members learned how important it is that each person helps to create a unified community. They learned if one person dropped their string, the entire "community" began to weaken. The "community" in the game represented the string held tight by members. It was a hit and the members played the game several times.
Finally, after a fun and exciting game of how to work together, members made Valentine cards for parents and some also chose to make some Valentines for the Senior Center. It was very colorful and fun! Members showed amazing creativity with their Valentines! Along with Valentines, members created homemade Chia Pets to take home and grow. It was a fun activity of dirt and seeds and recycled pop cans.
The next meeting for Cloverbuds will be March 9th where members will learn about the 4-H Portfolio, and write Mother and Father’s Day letters.
