BLM seeks comments on Draft Environmental Assessment for November 2011 Oil and Gas lease parcels
by Bureau of Land Management
April 21, 2011
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) High Desert District (HDD) is seeking public input on the draft environmental assessment (EA) for the November 2011 competitive oil and gas lease sale parcel offering.
The 125 parcels to be offered within the HDD vary in size from 30 to 2,560 acres. Thirty-four parcels are located in the Kemmerer Field Office; four in the Pinedale Field Office (PFO); 63 in the Rawlins Field Office (RFO); and 19 in the Rock Springs Field Office. The remaining five parcels cross field office boundaries. Two parcels in the RFO and one in the PFO are located in areas designated as unavailable for oil and gas leasing and have been removed from the offering.
The draft EA analyzes three alternatives: 1) No Action – offers no parcels for lease sale; 2) Proposed Action – offers 81 entire parcels and 5 partial parcels and defers 33 entire parcels and portions of eight other parcels; and 3) Maximum Offering Alternative - offers 122 parcels and has no deferrals.
The complete draft EA is available online at http://www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/documents/og-ea/1111.html.
Public comments are an important component of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process and written comments are especially helpful. The public is encouraged to identify and submit issues, concerns, ideas or mitigation opportunities not covered in the draft EA to help ensure the best possible analysis and plan.
Mail or deliver written comments by May 19, 2011 to HDD Resource Advisor, BLM Pinedale Field Office, 1625 W. Pine St., P.O. Box 768, Pinedale, WY 82941; or fax to 307-367-5329; or email to pinedale_wymail@blm.govwith "November 2011 Lease Parcels" in the subject line.
