Lakes are still icy
by Dawn Ballou, Pinedale Online!

We’re getting a lot of people asking if the lakes are clear of ice yet. The answer is no, but they are breaking up. There is still ice floating on Fremont, Soda and Half Moon Lakes, from the reports we have from this week. We haven’t heard specifically about the other Wind River chain lakes, but we have to assume the condition on those lakes is similar. We’re had a late spring and there is still a lot of snow that hasn’t started to come down yet out of the mountains. Most of the trailhead access roads are still impassable due to snow.
The good news is that the low elevations in the valley are clear of snow, with some opportunities for hiking around the lake edges, and mountain biking on gravel roads. Even better news is that the mosquitoes aren’t out yet. Bad news is that the ticks are out.
The Forest Service asks that people stay off the soft dirt and gravel roads until they have had a chance to dry out more and firm up the road base.
If anyone has been out scouting around and has taken any pictures, we’d appreciate any current reports on trail and road conditions, and snow levels. E-mail: support@pinedaleonline.com
