The locally-made DriftPac model of the VestPac multi-sport hydration system was named "Best of Show - Fly Fishing Accessory" at the prestigious ICAST Show in Las Vegas last weekend. ICAST is the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades and is presented by the American Sportfishing Association. It is the world’s largest sportfishing trade show, with 7,000 attendees from 53 countries this year.
VestPac is manufactured in Pinedale by Jeff Goltz. The modular gadget pack system features a 3-D Airmesh material to keep the wearer comfortable whether worn under a ski jacket or over a t-shirt while biking, hiking, riding or kayaking. Interchangeable front pockets hold personal electronics and small items and attach to the hydration back with comfortable elastic straps which help distribute water weight between shoulders and waist. The DriftPac model is designed specifically for fishing, with a chest pocket that folds open to easily access interchangeable fly and lure boxes attached with Velcro right where they are needed. Three mounted retractors keep small tools handy and safe, while upper pockets store electronics such as phone and a camera to document the day’s catch.
VestPac has recently been in the news with surfing legend Gerry Lopez for Stand-up Paddle, YakAngler for kayak fly fishing, the endurance horse racing circuit, and winning 10k runs in Jackson.
A full line of VestPac products is now available at Gannett Sports in Pinedale. All VestPac models feature interchangeable modules, making them a great gift for any active recreationalist, and one of the few items actually manufactured in town. Two Rivers Emporium is carrying the DriftTraveler, which has a monostrap rather than the hydration back and is good for the minimalist fly fisherman. A camo hunting version is currently on the drawing board. Photos and video of various uses for the VestPac can be found at www.VestPac.com and on Facebook.
