LARAMIE, WYOMING, September 30, 2011 — In response to numerous questions from members of the public, the University of Wyoming provides the following information about former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev's talk Friday, Oct. 14.
The talk, free and open to everyone, will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the UW Arena-Auditorium. Doors to the arena will open at 2:30 p.m. A small number of seats are reserved and require tickets, all other seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and no tickets are required. The program is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.
No large bags or backpacks will be allowed in the arena, and no photographic, audio or visual recording equipment will be permitted.
No special accommodations have been made for parking, but no parking tickets will be issued that day at the UW parking lots except for major infractions such as fire zone and handicapped area violations.
Retired U.S. Sen. Alan K. Simpson will serve as moderator for a question and answer session following Gorbachev's talk. More than 200 questions were submitted by UW students for this portion of the program, and a UW faculty committee will select questions from these submissions.
Bus passengers may be dropped of at the Arena-Auditorium ticket office on Willett Drive. Buses are welcome to park in the Summit View lot east of 22nd Street or along the asphalted side streets or along Harney Street. Buses are welcome to pick up passengers at the same point of drop off, but be prepared for Willett Drive to be crowded and access limited; a secondary point of pick up should be identified.
UW transportation personnel recommend that drivers arrive early to avoid congestion with driving and parking.
