The Wyoming State Historical Society honored the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal with a 2011 Publications Award in their Magazines and Newspapers category at their annual convention in Evanston on Saturday, September 10th. The Wyoming State Historical Society is an independent, non-profit organization which began in 1953 and provides direction and support for historical research and preservation in Wyoming.
The Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal is an academic, peer-reviewed publication published annually by the Museum of the Mountain Man/Sublette County Historical Society in Pinedale. The purpose of the Journal is to increase knowledge and bring fresh perspective by encouraging research and debate in the academic arena of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade era of 1824 to 1840. The Journal began in 2007 and is in its 5th year of publication. The award was for Volume 4. The Journal is made possible by funding from the Sublette County Museum Board and the Sublette County Commission.
Copies of the Journal are available in the gift shop at the Museum of the Mountain Man and online on their website in the Trading Post: www.MuseumoftheMountainMan.com. Volumes 1-(2007), 2-(2008) and 3-(2009) are sold out. Volumes 4-(2010) & 5-(2011) are still available and sell for $25.00 each.
Journal Editor Jim Hardee, Museum of the Mountain Man Assistant Angie Thomas, and Sublette County Historical Society President Clint Gilchrist went to Evanston to accept the award on behalf of the Museum.
