by University of Wyoming
September 12, 2011

LARAMIE, WYOMING -- The University of Wyoming’s School of Energy Resources and Ruckelshaus Institute of Environment and Natural Resources will co-host a two-day forum this month on hydraulic fracturing.

Designed to share facts about the use of hydraulic fracturing in oil and natural gas development in Wyoming, "Hydraulic Fracturing: A Wyoming Energy Forum" is Sept. 26-27 in Laramie at the UW Conference Center inside the Hilton Garden Inn, 2229 E. Grand Ave.

The forum will include presentations geared to educate participants on the technical aspects of the fracturing process, including the purpose, technology, applications and results; existing state and federal regulations relevant to hydraulic fracturing in Wyoming; potential environmental impacts associated with fracturing and activities directly related to its deployment; safety and environmental-best management practices used during fracturing; and knowledge, data and technology gaps for future research.

To learn more about the forum, including the agenda, go to http://www.uwyo.edu/ser/conferences/hydraulic-fracturing.html.

Reporters interested in covering the forum must contact Steve Kiggins, UW Institutional Communications, to reserve a spot in the media room at the UW Conference Center. He can be reached at 307-766-2353 or by email at skiggin1@uwyo.edu.
