The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service reports: "Preliminary estimates show > 30 packs, including > 20 breeding pairs in Wyoming (outside YNP) in 2011. Final population counts and pack composition will be estimated on 31 December and will be published in our 2011 Annual Report. The WY wolf population (outside YNP) average increase from 2002-2010 has been approximately 17% per year.
"As of October 21, 2011, wolves killed > 68 livestock (38 cattle and 30 sheep) in Wyoming. Fifteen packs (50% of WY packs in 2011) were involved in > 1 depredation: 8 packs (27%) were involved in > 2 depredations; and 5 packs (17%) were involved in > 3 depredations in 2011."
