Four Sublette County artists are enthusiastically combining their resources and various art endeavors to host an art exhibit at the Big Piney Library beginning November 30 and running through January 9. The public is encouraged to visit with the artists at a reception on Saturday, December 3, from 4:30 to 6:30 P. M., at the Big Piney Library.

Each of the four, Debbie Despain, Charmian McLellan, Kay Meeks, and Ruth Rawhouser, is an active member of the Wyoming Artists Association (WAA). Despain, McLellan, and Meeks progressed through the "officer ranks" to become past presidents of WAA. Rawhouser, Meeks, and McLellan have previously been tapped with the WAA "Grand Wyoming Artist" award.

Debbie Despain, Big Piney, is excited about her new pottery "adventures" after retiring from her position of many years with the postal service. A self-taught artist, she also works with acrylics, and has attended a number of workshops. She has served as an art instructor for 4-H members for 10 years.

Charmian McLellan, Boulder, holds a degree in art from Colorado State University and works in oils, pencil, pastel, and watercolor. Her subjects are inspired by her environment and the surrounding creatures. Most recently she has studied the beautiful brushwork in Oriental style ink and watercolor. She is represented by Vertical Peaks Fine Art in Jackson.

Kay Meeks, Daniel, is an untiring advocate of art throughout the county. Not only has she participated in many workshops, she is in high demand as an instructor. She conducts art lessons in her studio and, most recently, did a series of workshops at Rendezvous Pointe, Pinedale. She is scheduling more in the future there and in Marbleton at the senior center. She works in a variety of mediums. Her paintings may also be found at Vertical Peaks Fine Art, Jackson.

Ruth Rawhouser, Big Piney, received her degree in Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She was the art teacher in the Big Piney schools from 1976 to 1991. Great workshops have added to her knowledge and skills. Her wildlife and landscape paintings feature some of Wyoming’s lovable qualities. As a member of Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, her work has been in their National shows. Wyoming Gallery in Jackson has represented her work since 1986.

This promises to be a diverse exhibit. There will be everything from pottery, oil paintings, pastels, and watercolors to examples of Chinese or sumi brush painting. Check it out!!
