A large canine shot in Illinois in November is expected to be confirmed as a wolf, according to press reports. This is the latest in series of incidents in recent years in which hunters mistakenly shot what they believed were coyotes, but in fact the animals were wolves. Other single wolves have been killed by vehicles in Illinois as well.
