Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Winter Storm Warning for snow and blowing snow, which is in effect from 11 pm Friday evening to 11 pm Saturday for the western Wind River Mountains, Upper Green River Basin foothills, and Pinedale. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.
Light snow will increase this evening with moderate to heavy snow possible by midnight Friday night. The moderate to heavy snow could continue through Saturday evening.
8 to 12 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts approaching 18 inches possible above 9500 feet. Snowfall around 4 inches at Pinedale increasing to near a foot around Bondurant is expected in the lower elevations.
Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts in excess of 50 mph over higher peaks, becoming west by Saturday evening. Visibility will be reduced to near zero at times.
Outdoor activities and travel may become extremely treacherous as the strong winds and heavy snow combine to produce whiteout conditions around South Pass.
A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel keep an extra flashlight. Food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
