Yellowstone visitation tops 3 million for 5th straight year

Visitation to Yellowstone National Park in 2011 topped the 3 million mark for the fifth straight year.
Overall visitation to Yellowstone for 2011 was 3,394,321. While down 6.8 percent from the record 3,640,184 people who visited the park the previous year, 2011 was the second highest visitation year on record.

More than one-fourth of the park’s total annual visitation was recorded during the month of July, with 906,934 recreational visits.
December visitation was down 5.0 percent compared to year ago levels, with 16,509 visitors recorded in 2011 compared to 17,386 during the same period in 2010.
The last time the park recorded fewer than 3 million annual recreational visits was in 2006, with 2.87 million visits.
