DEQ to host training for storage tank operators

February 13, 2012
The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Storage Tank Program will be hosting several operator training classes in March. The training sessions (March 13th and 15th in Sheridan and March 27th and 29th in Cheyenne) will cover Wyoming Rules and Regulations and Statutes that apply to regulated underground storage tanks (USTs), and regulated above ground storage tanks (ASTs). This training will also prepare the operators to take the required Wyoming Storage Tank Operator's Exam for licensing. According to Oma Gilbreth, Compliance Supervisor for the Storage Tank Program, it has been two years since the regulations requiring storage tank operator licensing went into effect. "Since that time there have been over 500 Class A Storage Tank Operator Licenses issued by the program and a majority of these licenses will expire this year", said Gilbreth. Operators must pass a 50 question, multiple choice, open book exam. Once they have passed the exam, they will need to submit a completed license application to the Storage Tank Program. The operator’s license is valid for two years. "The trainings are free, however, class sizes are limited and the operators will need to submit a registration form to the Storage Tank Program," said Gilbreth. For more information or to receive a registration form, please contact Clay Bullock, Storage Tank Program Compliance Inspector at 307-777-7077.
