National election news update As we observed presidential election returns from caucus and presidential primaries during the past months, the Democratic Party results were typically ignored... being as Barack Obama was running unopposed. But, in yesterday's (Tuesday, May 22) presidential primary election in Arkansas, there were two candidates on the Democratic ballot: Barack Obama and attorney John Wolfe. With 99% of the Arkansas vote totaled, the Democratic Party results are worth noting. Obama received 58% of the vote, and Wolfe received 42% of the Democrat vote. On the Republican side, Mitt Romney received 68% of the Republican vote.
Wyoming election news update With regard to the newly created State House District 20, which encompasses all of Sublette County except for the Daniel and Bondurant precincts, one Republican has filed to be on the Primary ballot for this State Representative slot. His name is Jim Mickelson, of Big Piney.
So far, no one has filed for House District 22, which includes Daniel and Bondurant, along with parts of Lincoln and Teton County.
At the County level, four Republicans have now filed to be on the primary ballot for the single County Commissioner slot that is up for election. These four persons include Douglas Vickrey of Daniel, John Linn of Big Piney, James Latta of Pinedale, and Ernie Kawa of Pinedale. Also, Jeness Saxton has filed for the remaining two years of the County Assessor's term. Since she currently serves as our County Assessor by an appointment, she is required to be elected in our upcoming elections in order to continue to serve the remaining two years. So far, no Democrats have filed for office in Sublette County.
The opportunity to file for offices to be on the August Primary ballot ends on next week's Friday, June 1st. ___________________________________
