Temporary Closure ordered for La Barge Creek Road for Fontenelle Fire
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
June 26, 2012
Kemmerer, Wyo. – The Bridger-Teton National Forest has issued a temporary closure for the La Barge creek road and the surrounding area for firefighter and recreationist safety as a result of the Fontenelle Fire. The Special Order went into effect immediately and is expected to be in place as long as the fire is being actively fought. The closure was necessary to allow for fire apparatus and personnel to work unencumbered along the Forest road and to keep the public a safe distance away from the blaze during this time of active growth and suppression. "We know it is an inconvenience to our public and we apologize for the upset to any visitor’s plans, but we are hoping folks will understand and help us out as we work to control the blaze," said Greys River District Ranger Adam Mendonca. The now 900-acre Fontenelle Fire was reported on the Bridger-Teton National Forest around 4:30pm on Sunday, June 24. The fire is burning north of South La Barge Creek, south and west of the La Barge Creek road, and east of Cabin Creek. The cause of this fire is under investigation. It is burning in heavy dead and fallen timber. The fire is located approximately 33-miles northwest of the community of La Barge Wyoming. The fire danger rating for the area is "High". The Fontenelle Fire has one light, or Type 3 helicopter, and two medium, or Type 2 helicopters assigned to it. For additional information, visit www.inciweb.org
