Fontenelle Fire photos by Dave Bell
July 1, 2012
Dave Bell took on the challenge of the grueling hike to the top of Wyoming Peak in the Wyoming Range on Saturday. He accessed it from the Greys River side to get a mountain-top view from the west of the Fontenelle Fire.
"It is always a spectacular view from Wyoming Peak, the highest point in the Wyoming Range at 11,378'. Today the view was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. To the west was gorgeous scenery, blue skies and wonderful views. To the east was the Fontenelle fire consuming Fish Creek Mountain. I remained on the summit for about an hour watching the plume grow and grow until finally it had formed quite a thunderhead above it. I hiked up from Greys River on a trail I had never walked. About 6 miles up and 2,600 vertical feet, but really an excellent trail with great views, well defined tread and a moderate grade considering it has to ascend 2,600' in a relatively short distance. A Wyoming Peak gallery is now up with shots from the hike and of the fire."
Sadly, Wyoming Peak lookout tower has collapsed. Click on this link for more photos from his hike: Wyoming Peak and Fontenelle Fire-June 30, 2012 Album
