The Wyoming Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 21st. In addition to the Sublette County local races for County Commissioner, Assessor and Precinct candidates, citizens will also be voting on their choice for US Senator and for US House of Representatives. Other statewide races, such as Governor, will not be held until another two years.

Locally, seven Republicans and one Democrat have filed in Sublette County for one County Commissioner seat which is up for election. Each political party will vote for one candidate to represent their party in the primary election on August 21st, and then the General Election in November will pick the County Commissioner to fill the one open commissioner slot.

With regard to the State Legislature, the boundary lines were recently redrawn for the various districts, and now Sublette County will have at least one representative in the Wyoming State House who lives in Sublette County. No Democrats filed for any of the Legislative races which take in Sublette County, and two Sublette County Republicans, Albert Sommers and Jim Mickelson, will be campaigning to become the State Representative for most of Sublette County in House District 20. The exception is the Daniel and Bondurant precincts, where Star Valley resident Marti Halverson is running unopposed to represent the Daniel and Bondurant precincts, in addition to other areas outside of Sublette County, in House District 22.

In the State Senate Race, most of Sublette County is now part of State Senate District 14, which includes all of Sublette County, except for the Daniel and Bondurant precincts, and also includes portions of three other counties. Incumbent Stan Cooper of Lincoln County is being challenged by Uinta County resident Lyle Williams for the Republican nomination for State Senate. In the Daniel and Bondurant precincts, incumbent Republican Dan Dockstader is running unopposed for State Senate District 16.

To assist voters in Sublette County in making their decision in these local races, two candidate forums will be held at the beginning of next week, hosted by the Pinedale Roundup, the Sublette Examiner, Pinedale Online, and KPIN Radio. The first will be on Monday, August 13 at the new Senior Center in Marbleton starting at 6 PM. The next evening, Tuesday, August 14, a second forum will be held in the Lovatt Room of the public library in Pinedale, also starting at 6 PM. Both forums will be broadcast live on KPIN Radio, 101.1 FM. Sometime following the broadcast, audio files will be posted on both www.pinedaleonline.com and also on www.sublettetimes.com to allow people to listen to these forums at any time of their choosing.

All the County Commissioner and the State Legislature candidates have been invited to participate in both forums. Written questions will be received from the public at each forum, and they can be submitted either in advance or during the forum by e-mailing them to forum@pinedaleonline.com. Uncontested candidates will only be giving a brief presentation and will not be in the main Question and Answer session. Candidates will be available to mingle with the voters before and after both forums.
