Exploring Wyoming’s Rodeo Women program August 28
August 27, 2012
The Sublette County Artists’ Guild invites everyone to a special program in Pinedale on Tuesday, August 28th exploring the athleticism of early women rodeo competitors. The free event begins at 6:00 PM with a reception at the Museum of the Mountain Man. The talk begins at 7:00 PM.
Melanie O’Hara will give a presentation that investigates the unique social forces that evolved as a result of Wyoming rodeo gals, the new type of woman in the late nineteenth century who moved out west, rode a horse astride, and became essentially Wyoming’s first woman athletes.
O’Hara’s presentation is offered by the Wyoming Humanities Council through its Humanities Forum. The Wyoming Humanities Council provides public humanities-based programs in partnership with local organizations and is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The general public is invited. For more information, call Charmian McLellan at 307-537-5488.
