Teams from Alaska and Canada make up half the roster
by International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race
January 17, 2013

Jackson Hole, Wyoming – January 17, 2013 – When the 18th International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) begins in Jackson, Wyoming, on January 25, 2013, 23 teams – driven by mushers from Alaska, Canada, Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota, Michigan, Oregon and Sweden – will sprint from the Jackson Town Square starting line. The mushers will be bringing some 368 dogs to compete in the event, the largest sled dog race in the lower 48 states.

The 2013 IPSSSDR starts in Jackson on January 25, then follows a new route this year with stages visiting the communities of West Yellowstone, Mont.; Alpine, Pinedale, Lander, Big Piney/Marbleton, Kemmerer, and Mountain View in Wyoming, with the finish on February 2 in Evanston, Wyo. Two of the stages also will cross into Idaho and Utah, making this year’s race the first IPSSSDR to mush through a total of four Rocky Mountain States.

The youngest musher in this year’s IPSSSDR is 17, the oldest, 60. Teams driving the farthest distance to attend the race are Brent Beck and Richard Beck from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, who drive 2,700 miles to the race start in Jackson. A majority of 16 teams on this year’s roster have competed in past IPSSSDRs and five are rookies.

Wyoming has three mushers entered in the 2013 event: Jerry Bath from Lander, Wyo., who placed 7th in the 2012 IPSSSDR; Stacey Teasley from Jackson, Wyo., who placed 12th in 2012; and Alix Pearson from Bondurant, who will be racing in the IPSSSDR for the first time. A complete list of the 23 teams entered in the 2013 IPSSSDR follows this release. Musher bios and additional information is available on the event website at www.wyomingstagestop.org.

With its unique stage stop format, the IPSSSDR has become a popular mushing event attracting the world’s top competitors. Pedigree® Food for Dogs is the title sponsor of the IPSSSDR. The Pedigree® brand actively supports a wide range of programs that promote responsible pet ownership and highlight the contributions dogs make to society.

The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race was founded in 1996 by Frank Teasley to make sled dog racing more accessible to the public. In addition, the race works to spread the word in support of the need for childhood immunizations—and each year the race makes a contribution to communities on the race route with many communities using the funds for childhood immunization programs.
