Fishing Report (Winter 2013)
by Mike Kaul, Two Rivers Emporium
January 9, 2013
The fish in the streams around Pinedale have turned their metabolism rates down to low and are expending the minimum amount of energy to forage for the reduced food supply available in the local streams. During January, February and the early part of March there is very little open water on the many flowing waterways around Pinedale so the fish do get a brief break from the fisher’s pursuit. This short rest will help the trout survive the winter and keep them in good shape for next season.
The current fishing action centers on connecting with big hungry trout by jigging some type of bait or lure through the ice on one of the many fine lakes we have in the Pinedale area. To find out more about ice fishing conditions go to www.pinedaleonline.com and click on ice fishing under the "Things To Do" heading.
The less hardy fishers who prefer to wait until there is some open water on our local streams should concentrate on tying some of those basic fly patterns they will use next season, polishing those rusty lures and cleaning and lubricating their reels.
The weather and water conditions will periodically change throughout the next several weeks. Please feel free to contact me for fishing and water projections. (Mike Kaul, 1-800-329-4353 or e-mail 2rivers@wyoming.com, www.2rivers.net)
