JACKSON, WYOING – Beginning March 25, 2013, Cheryl Probert will serve as the Acting Forest Supervisor of the Bridger-Teton National Forest until the position is filled permanently. Cheryl Probert is currently the Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Utah. She has been with the Forest Service for 25 years. "She is a top notch leader," said Forest Supervisor Jacque Buchanan. "Cheryl is familiar with the Bridger-Teton and should be able to step right in behind me," she said. Probert grew up in a small town in northeastern Vermont and spent most of her free time with her family, outdoors. She went on her first backpack trip at the age of three and that next winter, her dad built her first pair of snowshoes. After graduating from high school, she bought a bus ticket and moved to Missoula, Montana to attend the University of Montana. Probert started her career with the Forest Service as a seasonal range technician and in a student appointment on the Bitterroot and Deerlodge National Forests while pursuing her degree. After graduating from the University of Montana, she went to southeast Idaho where she worked on the Targhee and Caribou-Targhee National Forest for 15 years. She began as a range conservationist, did an acting stint as a wildlife biologist, and then became the Forest National Environmental Policy Act, Appeals and Litigation Coordinator and Forest Planner. During that time the planning team completed the Curlew Grassland Plan and Caribou Forest Plan Revision. Probert then worked in the Bridgeport District Ranger position on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in the beautiful eastern Sierra. After five years, she became the Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache national Forest. Probert’s interests include exploring new country and travelling to visit her five children and four grandchildren, being a volleyball mom with her youngest daughter, working with horses, landscaping, playing golf and listening to any genre of music, except jazz. The current Forest Supervisor of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Jacque Buchanan, will begin her new position as the Director for Renewable Resources in Lakewood, Colorado after her last day on March 22, 2013. Buchanan took the promotion because she began her career with the Forest Service to pursue her passion for Range Management and the Director position provides her the opportunity to work in that field of expertise, along with wildlife, timber, air and water, and effect change across multiple states.
