The Los Angeles Times reports that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plan to delist wolves throughout the nation (with the exception of the Mexican wolf) has been put on hold due to problems in the process of scientific review of the proposal.
The independent scientific review of the process was put into question when agency officials were able to determine who the proposed anonymous reviewers were simply by looking at their resumes, even though their names were redacted. Since three of the proposed reviewers had already signed onto a letter opposing delisting, FWS questioned their impartiality and these three people were dropped from the review team.
