Lightning causes busy day
September 17, 2013
Tues, Sept. 17, 8:30PM: Electricity is out for residents north of Ehman Lane west of Pinedale, in Cora and in Daniel this evening – cause likely is lightning. 933 homes are affected. KPIN 101.1 FM Radio transmitter is also currently off the air. Rocky Mountain Power repair persons are working on it. Also, two Kendall Valley Fire Department engines and the Forest Service are responding to a confirmed smoke in the Moose-Gypsum Creek area in the Upper Green. Another engine is investigating a report of another possible smoke on Saltlick Mountain in the Upper Green.
Earlier today, the National Weather Service issued multiple ongoing advisories and warnings for a wave of thunderstorms crossing western Wyoming. These storms brought with them severe lightning, strong winds, heavy localized rain, and hail reportedly ranging in size from peas to golf balls.
By late evening reports of flash flooding were issued, with water moving across US Hwy 189 south of LaBarge, which caused officials to close the road in both directions near mile marker 81 until the water subsided.
