Volunteers willing to assist with the ski patrol program at White Pine this winter need to be certified in Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC). This program, developed at a federal level for first responders, is recognized as a National Ski Patrol Qualification and is designed to enhance public safety.

White Pine’s lead volunteer ski patroller will be hosting an OEC class beginning November 12. The training and exercise program guides first responders through a comprehensive 60 hour classroom workshop with a further 3-4 Saturdays’ training at White Pine at the beginning of winter. Evening classes will be held in Pinedale’s Search and Rescue offices and will run twice weekly over a 6-week period. The course serves all emergency management professionals and is open to anyone interested in participating. Anyone who participated in the course prior to 2010 is required to re-certify to be classified as a current first responder.

The $395.00 course fee includes the OEC manual and certification and will be reimbursed to those participating at an acceptable level in the volunteer ski patrol program at White Pine.
