Main Street Pinedale held a re-hanging and ribbon cutting ceremony for the "All The Civilization You Need" sign on Friday, November 1st. The sign is located on the corner of Pine Street and Fremont Lake Road, in front of Ridley’s grocery store.

David Klaren, owner of Dire Wolf Studio in Pinedale, did the sign restoration over the winter. The Town of Pinedale Public Works Department re-worked the brackets and re-hung it on Tuesday, Oct. 29th. Jacie Rose, Lisa Levert, Rachel Grimes, and Jeanne Brown, board members of the Pinedale Main Street program, re-stained the hefty log sign supports.

According to Dave Hohl the sign was erected as part of a beautification and marketing effort in the 1990s through a US Forest Service Recreation Initiative. Riddell Advertising out of Jackson apparently came up with the slogan. The Sage & Snow Garden Club was involved in planting the adjacent trees and landscaping.

The sign is a gateway marker into downtown Pinedale and had deteriorated with age and exposure to the weather. The sign was repainted and cracks and warping repaired. The project was funded through Main Street Pinedale commemorative Christmas ornaments sales, and David Klaren donated 50 hours of his time to the refurbishment which was more extensive than initially expected.

The slogan "All the Civilization You Need" has been re-adapted into an ad campaign to promote Pinedale through the Pinedale Travel & Tourism Commission which administers advertising revenue from the Pinedale lodging tax.

Thank you to Kate Dahl, Rachel Grimes, Terry Allen, John Anderson and Josh Wilson for their contributions to this article.
