Avalanche danger is always a concern in the backcountry. Riders must be very cautious on slopes especially in higher elevations. The first 24 hours after a storm are the most dangerous and unstable. Avalanche forecasts are available daily from the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center in Jackson, Wyoming: Avalanche Warning for the mountains of western Wyoming until noon on Monday, January 13. Dangerous avalanche conditions exist and large avalanches have been observed. Large to very large natural and human triggered avalanches are likely. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. This avalanche warning is in effect for the mountains of Western Wyoming including the Teton, Gros Ventre, Snake River, Salt River, Wyoming Ranges and the Togwotee Pass Area. Very strong winds and heavy snow will create dangerous avalanche conditions. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. www.jhavalanche.org, 307-733-2664, avalanche@jacksonhole.com.
